Skimo and Trail Running Coach
My name is Vegard Øie and I am a Skimo and Trail Running coach. Alongside this I am a professional skimo athlete for Atomic and a member of the national Norwegian Skimo team, as well as a trail runner.
My winters have been spent competing at the highest level in ISMF World Cup and Grande Course races, representing Norway in World Championships and European Championships. You can see all my results here.

Skimo Achievements
In the 2024 season, I placed 15th at the European Championships and secured a top 10 finish at the renowned Pierra Menta skimo race together with fellow Atomic skier Yoann Sert. Trail Running Achievments
During the summer, I focus on Trail Running and hold the course record for Tromsø Skyrace Tromsdalstinden. Previously I have held the course record for Romsdalseggenløpet, this now belongs to trail running legend Kilian Jornet. I believe that athletes focusing on two seasons need to make some hard choices, and I have been prioritizing Skimo and trying to build as much fitness as possible during the summers.
Education
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, specializing in health and exercise physiology from the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. At the conclusion of this I extended my studies to include a Master’s degree in sports physiology and biomechanics from the Norwegian School of Sport Science. Through Practical Pedagogical Education I also have formal teaching qualifications.
